Day Z is a (completely free) zombie mod for the tactical shooter video game ArmA II. And it looks awesome.
The description on the official site is as follows:
A 225 km2 open world post-soviet state and one of the areas hit by a new and presently unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world’s population. You are one of the few who have survived and now you must search this new wasteland in order to fight for your life against what is left of the indigenous population, now infected with the disease.
Go Solo, team up with friends or take on the world as you choose your path in this brutal and chilling landscape using whatever means you stumble upon to survive.
In short, ArmA II has been transformed into a zombie survival game. In addition to the inevitable killing of zombies, there are additional elements like eating and drinking which are crucial to your survival. In many video games, getting shot isn’t much of a problem as long as your health doesn’t hit 0. Not here. If you get shot, you’ll bleed and lose blood until someone fixes you up. There’s even an element of pain; if you happen to get injured and have no painkillers, you’ll shake, making playing much more difficult.
Everything I’ve read and seen makes Day Z out to be a fantastic mod and one that was sorely needed; there isn’t an abundance of zombie survival games at the best of times. Check out the Day Z site and the gameplay videos below.
